How to Achieve the Parisian Look

How to Achieve the Parisian Look

I was recently inspired to create my version of the effortless Parisian look. With a little bit of digging, I found that French fashion has come a long way in the fashion industry. Not only has French fashion played a strong influence culturally, but it continues to lead as a popular style icon in European fashion. To achieve this effortless look, here are some helpful tips to wear the Parisian style:

Less is More
There is no need to over accessorize when it comes to the Parisian style. The key is to look balance and simple. So save those statement necklaces for another day. Rarely will you find French women wearing graphic tees. So instead, trade those adorable animal and cartoon tees for a simple stripes.

Keep it Neutral
Black, white, navy, nudes, and non-powering colors are everything! Not only are these colors simple, but they are relatively easy to match for everyday wear. So investing in basic button ups and blouses would be a ideal for the Parisian look.

Finding the Right Fit
Coco Chanel once said “fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions. The Parisian style is dressed for the body type of the individual. That means no baggy boyfriend jeans, over sized coats, or ill fitting dresses. Having clothes tailored to fit your curves is practically a must for the French women. This could explain why we are so obsessed with the French figure. So visit your local tailor to keep your attire sleek and fitted.

Wear with Confidence
Aside from French women being crowned for “best dressed”, remember to wear the style with attitude. Never second guess your style choices. Just simply rock it. Dress for yourself and let the confidence shine through.

4 Ankle Boots Everyone Needs to Own

Ankle boots are essentially conservative high heels. They’re stylish, comfy, and they have a way of being subtle or bold. The heels can be thick, thin, short or tall. But here are 4 ankle boots that everyone must own this winter:

1. BETTY Patent Boots
Lets be real here, a person can only have some many classic black leather boots. Change it up! Try this pair from Top Shop. The snakeskin texture is very unique and the metal heels are edgy. These shoes can make any outfit look incredibly chic. For a more feminine & work appropriate outfit, pair these boots with black tights. For a night out, pair these babies with a cute dressy short. http://goo.gl/SNfqea

2. Sueded Pointed Toe Ankle Boots - $38.00
This tan/khakis & black ankle boot would look absolutely stunning with any neutral colored trench coat. They absolutely scream fall season, but I would highly avoid wearing them on rainy days. Rain stains on velvet is never fun. http://goo.gl/xvksGS

3. Faux Suede Fringe Booties - $39.90
Fringe boots are definitely making a comeback. They can add flare and fun to any outfit. It takes an edgy, yet confident woman to rock these stunning boots. Plus, their super fun to walk in when the fringes move with you. http://goo.gl/Qgiumo

4. Zipped Faux Suede Booties - $34.90
Tan ankle boots with the side zippers. They colors are fresh and it would complement well with both boyfriend & skinny jeans. http://goo.gl/NbMizb

These are just a few of my favorites choices to protect your lovely feet from the cold (while staying stylish...of course). Let me know which ones are your favorite & if there are any others I should know about. Ankle boots are awesome, if they're available for square dancing -- count me in!

Green Olives for Winter

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and fun-filled celebration to officially start the year.

So about 2 weeks ago (in 2015...), I had the pleasure of collaborating with local Portland photographer, Nino Ortiz - to do a very casual photo shoot. Although we had only just met, we had this great connection as if we had been friends for years. He is incredibly talented and soaks in every photographic opportunity as a learning experience. I am very honored to be a part of his love for creativity.

So for this shoot, I wanted to find an outfit that would compliment my green skater skirt (from H&M). Green also happens to my favorite color and I wanted the skirt to stand alone. By throwing a long olive coat into the mix, dark high heel boots, and a black top it instantly became winter friendly outfit. With the boots, I added thigh high socks to keep the legs warm while giving the boots a longer appearance. This lengthy waterproof coat (from Laundry by Shelli Segal) comes with a hood and is perfect for the rainy days here in Portland. To keep the overall look very chic, I bought a new black hat from Ross for only $10! The amount of “floppiness” was just right. Here are some similar pieces you can pull together for this outfit:
